spring in a candle

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

spring is less than three weeks away and that fresh spring scent is in the air, conjuring daydreams of picnics in the park, luxurious vacations and fragrant flower fields.  since spring weather doesn’t seem to want to arrive, we needed something to ease these blustery winter days. luckily, linnea’s lights’ new spring scents in lavender, mimosa and white coral debuted just in time. these triple scented soy candles, inspired by exotic locales, are the perfect remedy for the winter blues.

in ancient rome lavender was revered for it’s healing properties and relaxing scent.  an exquisite luxury, it often cost romans the equivalent of a month’s wages or more.  this candle infuses lavender’s calming effect with rosemary’s sensual woody undertone and lively citrus top notes releasing the true power of this transcendent flower. tranquil and refreshing.

inspired by the white coral sands of the Maldives, this bewitching scent inspires thoughts of exotic and far away places. when lit, cardamon’s resinous aroma entwines with the bright citrus of neroli, uplifting mandarin and soft woods to create a captivating  and calming halo.  enchanting.

conjuring thoughts of provence’s bright mimosa fields, sun drenched hills and evergreens, this scent combines mimosa’s delicate scent with white jasmine’s exotic sweetness and fresh sandalwood for a perfect and balanced halo.  this scent is both delicate and powerful.

it is finally march and according to my countdown (which usually starts in september), spring officially starts in wait for it, wait for it….13 days!!!! and if you are like me, spring is my favorite time for fashion.the bright colors, charming accessories and layered looks have me pining for spring every other season of the year.  this season its all about paradoxes: bold colors and head-to-toe white, 70′s style and 80′s prep, ladylike lace and biker-chic. so whether you’re country-club chic or a biker babe, this spring has a trend for all fashionistas.  here are a few of my favorite pieces:

bold colors: anthropologie’s glanz dress

whiteout: michael kors linen pants

70′s inspired: dvf ‘s harper cube day bag

reinvented prep: anthropologie’s twisted stripe dress

lace: anthropologie’s clearing mist top

biker chic: alexander mcqueen’s skull fashion scarf

six more days and we are officially ‘back to school’, and here at the markoff group we are making the most of it ~ riding our new bicycles from Bowery Lane Bikes to and from work, popping out for an afternoon ice cream, and overall enjoying the long sunny days while they last.

however, there is no need to shed a tear, fall is sure to be filled with excitement and new inspiration ~ the foliage changing colors, autumn themed dinner parties, the new amsterdam market every sunday starting in september, and my personal favorite ~ spiced apple cider, i just simply adore it, and most of all we are obsessed with our clients new fall products and we think you will agree.

your bag says everything…

Friday, June 25th, 2010

as most can attest, i simply love handbags. i think they would even go so far to say that i have an obsession with YSL handbags. it has come to the point that i visit the YSL boutique on 57th and 5th and walk out with a new Muse or Roady that i then proceed to hide from my husband, who knows exactly what i am doing, but he humors me anyway. he gives me that look. you know the one?

the look...

i think your bag and the color of your bag speaks to your mood and feelings. it is like a pair of shoes. it ALWAYS fits. and on these hot and humid summer days that counts. most recently, i have departed from my navy blue Roady bag and into a more structure classic dove grey large Muse by YSL. I am loving how subdued and relaxed it makes me feel. i know some may say i am crazy. but it does the trick for me. i look at it and i seem to exhale, my shoulders relax, and my jaw loosens.

yesterday, i had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Jennifer Hassell of Orange and Pear . she has a keen, amazing eye. i am loving everything on her site. so much so that i have departed from my YSL addiction and have purchased a new bag and a new designer. could it be? yes it could! i bought a Flea Bag. it should arrive any day and until then i am filled with nervous anticipation. i just know i will love it. i already have such plans for our new adventures. it will become my traveling companion for my upcoming jaunt to Greece and Turkey, perfect for my Istanbul market purchases.

stay tuned for more updates on the adventures of my new bag, and until then… visit Jennifer’s site and buy one for yourself.
