there’s only one ‘of a kind’: my latest fashion find

in honor of the official beginning of spring, i thought it might be appropriate to celebrate with a little bit of retail flair. with the warmer weather and sunnier days ahead, i couldn’t wait to discover the perfect new accessory to add to my spring wardrobe. luckily for me, i achieved my goal rather quickly when i stumbled across an awesome new fashion site called of a kind.

of a kind is an online business that promotes on-the-rise fashion designers by featuring these designers’ unique (and, of course, limited quantity) products. the great thing about of a kind is that they also allow us to get to know the designers a bit more on a personal level, sharing about the stories behind their creative creations and their most influential fashion inspirations. but what i love the most about of a kind is the fact that all the items they carry are truly one of a kind since featured editions range in size from only five to 50 pieces. in total. i love that.

totally sold on of a kind‘s business concept, i just wanted to share about my first purchase: the brushfire summer wrap by lindsey thornburg. printed in italy and finished in nyc, this cashmere-modal ultra-thin wrap combines rich blues, oranges, purples, yellows, and browns to yield an absolutely stunning accessory for the beach, dinner dates, and even weddings! what do i love about it the most? i am 1 of only 50 people in the whole wide world who own this lovely creation!

though the brushfire summer wrap is unfortunately sold out, there are tons of other awesomely unique accessories and fashion items you can find at of a kind.

here are some additional items i found that i would love to have (they’re still available, so hurry before they sell out!):

(1)  flora clutch by tenoversix (20 of a kind)

(2) nude necklace no. 8 by iacoli & mcallister (35 of a kind)

christmas: the most wonderful time of the year

“it’s the most wonderful time of the year
with the kids jingle belling
and everyone telling you “be of good cheer”
it’s the most wonderful time of the year
it’s  the hap-happiest season of all”
~andy williams

christmas is definitely one of my favorite holidays. just something about it is completely magical, and everyone around you is in good cheer. it’s as if fairies stopped by and sprinkled enchanted pixie dust across the town, making all things seem a little rosier, cozier, and simply just delightful.  even in new york, when things are bustling and hustling most of the time, things seem to slow down. people stroll the streets enjoying the city’s night skyline or slowly peruse through outdoor farmer’s markets in union square, stopping to, literally, smell the roses, lovely inspiring scented-candles, and perhaps the occasional whiff of hot chocolate brewing in a nearby stand.

one of the things i love to do during the holiday season is to go to a nearby cafe or bakery and sit by the window with a toasty latte in my hands and people watch. the perfect place to do this? bryant park. located between 40th and 42nd streets & fifth and sixth avenues, bryant park is an amazing place to catch up with friends over a cup of coffee, do some last minute holiday shopping at one of over 100 cute boutiques and gift shops, or even ice skate (for free!). there’s also plenty of benches and places to sit and take in the oasis-like winter wonderland curiously situated in the middle of a large and busy city. where will you be enjoying the holidays?

while summer is still mid-swing for most, those of us here at the markoff group are well into planning next season’s gift guide to get a jump on the holidays. as the newest member of the markoff group family, i am thrilled to present to you the latest  flavors, scents, and styles coming out for fall and holiday 2011. thinking about gifts for the holidays might not have crossed into your  summer hazed mind yet, but with next season fast approaching, take an air-conditioned second to cool off and check out these creative gift ideas.

vosges haut-chocolat is offering a delicious selection including three new items, all top sellers. the least traditional is the “groove truffle collection,” pairing mouth watering truffles with toe tapping music. linnea’s lights is offering a fragrant  fall and winter line of scented soy candles that will warm up your home and without affecting your carbon footprint.  hester van eeghen (also a new member to the markoff group) has come out with a truly original selection of leather handbags and accessories. keeping up with the times

want to know what fashion trends are most popular where? and stay on top of them to the second? the online fashion boutique net-a-porter has just launched a new program on their website called “net-a-porter live” that lets you see what individual (registered) shoppers are putting in their virtual shopping bags in real time. items pop up on a google map at the location where the user is shopping from and a bar on the right shows the product, price and name of the location.

now you can be ahead of the curve no matter where you live and all you jetsetters can always know whats hip before you hop across the pond.  be sure to go check it out for yourself here.
