springtime fashion

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

it is finally march and according to my countdown (which usually starts in september), spring officially starts in wait for it, wait for it….13 days!!!! and if you are like me, spring is my favorite time for fashion.the bright colors, charming accessories and layered looks have me pining for spring every other season of the year.  this season its all about paradoxes: bold colors and head-to-toe white, 70′s style and 80′s prep, ladylike lace and biker-chic. so whether you’re country-club chic or a biker babe, this spring has a trend for all fashionistas.  here are a few of my favorite pieces:

bold colors: anthropologie’s glanz dress

whiteout: michael kors linen pants

70′s inspired: dvf ‘s harper cube day bag

reinvented prep: anthropologie’s twisted stripe dress

lace: anthropologie’s clearing mist top

biker chic: alexander mcqueen’s skull fashion scarf

so nice i wore it twice

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

i love this time of year and when i have a great idea for a halloween costume, well, that just sweetens the pot. this year my ideas are too awful to own up to here, but i tell people about last year and the year before every chance i get. full disclosure: i was the same thing two years in a row, which some enthusiasts said was a party foul but i couldn’t hear them above the din of my own satisfaction, too busy relishing in the best costume idea of my life. twice.

i went as a “composition notebook”, that childhood staple, two years ago and last year cut the dress portion a little shorter and went as a “sexy composition notebook” (i know, i know). once i stumbled upon the dress at a charity shop, it really all came together though. see?

all in the details

replete with lisa frank stickers and a pencil in my hair, i felt pretty smug. i knew i’d be the only sexy composition notebook at the party i was going to and i liked it. currently though, i’m still waiting for inspiration to strike. where does your costume inspiration come from? and do you have any to throw my way?

it’s all in the stars

we have a daily ritual in our household ~ every morning i read the horoscopes from the New York Post. my husband is a cancer. emma (yes, emma gets her horoscope read as well) is an aquarius. i am a taurus, and trust me i am a genuine taurus to the tee.

miss emma patiently awaiting her horoscope reading

a few minutes ago, i was rummaging through my tear sheets folder (which now is an unorganized mess of a pile) and i found three different horoscope pages. i must have been so inspired by what they said the day would hold for me that i tore them out of the paper to save and read throughout the day.

and i must say they were pretty darn good.

you will rush from crisis to crisis this week, plugging the gaps and holes as and when they appear. a better strategy by far would be to give up and let fate take its course. you cannot be everyone’s savior.

do something so out of the ordinary today that even your rivals and enemies are lost in admiration. because you are usually so predictable it can have a huge effect when you do things that are not expected.

do you have the courage to follow a course of action that not everyone is likely to approve of? hopefully you will because there is a lot at stake and the biggest shares of the spoils will go to those who dare.

horoscopes can  pertain to any day you please. if you read one and it inspires you to take a leap of faith or try new things or just puts a little bounce in your step, make it yours. i have saved these and put them on my cork board at the office. available to read at anytime, to motivate me to see the bright side of every situation, and to encourage me to take risks.
