goede dag, hester van eeghan

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

in the dead heat of august my dear friend, debby ruth, invited me to lunch with her friend, hester van eeghan, at jean-georges. of course i jumped at the chance. i had been hearing the most wonderful things about hester over the years and debby was just about to launch hveus ~ hester’s first foray into the united states on 10.10.10 ~ so thrilling and exciting. {i love to live vicariously through others’ adventures, it is my guilty pleasure} and to boot…lunch at jean-georges? sign me up!

the lunch was a lovely dream-like scene ~ hester was vibrant and funny and quirky. her luxurious handbags are all her and vice versa. carrying one of her bags is like carrying around a little piece of her beautiful, whimsical personality. i find myself thinking of that lunch often when i need a little color in my day.

and more recently i find myself drawn to the new website hveus.com daily to read the inspiration behind her designs. my most recent purchase is the woody. i just loved hester’s story about it:

You’ve seen them on a bus, or train, or at church … everyday women clutching their modest handbags to their chests as if to protect their most valuable possessions. Hester has seen them too, but in her homage to these icons, she transforms the humble “anti-bag” into incredibly stylish, edgy and colorful works of art worthy of clutching protection.
Curious about the name? Woody is a nod to the many anti-heroes that populate the films of their namesake director who, in the end, turn out to be quirky, but loveable characters.

i encourage everyone to bring a little whimsy to their life with a little hester.

to celebrate the launch, debby has been so gracious to offer our readers a 10% VIP discount on their purchases through October 31, 2010. Simply enter promo code FONM at checkout.

All the bags in the launch collection are signed editions. There are only 10 styles and 10 bags of each color. Each one is numbered and hand signed by the designer, like the works of art they are.

it’s all in the stars

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

we have a daily ritual in our household ~ every morning i read the horoscopes from the New York Post. my husband is a cancer. emma (yes, emma gets her horoscope read as well) is an aquarius. i am a taurus, and trust me i am a genuine taurus to the tee.

miss emma patiently awaiting her horoscope reading

a few minutes ago, i was rummaging through my tear sheets folder (which now is an unorganized mess of a pile) and i found three different horoscope pages. i must have been so inspired by what they said the day would hold for me that i tore them out of the paper to save and read throughout the day.

and i must say they were pretty darn good.

you will rush from crisis to crisis this week, plugging the gaps and holes as and when they appear. a better strategy by far would be to give up and let fate take its course. you cannot be everyone’s savior.

tuesday, june 8, 2010

do something so out of the ordinary today that even your rivals and enemies are lost in admiration. because you are usually so predictable it can have a huge effect when you do things that are not expected.

sunday, june 13, 2010

do you have the courage to follow a course of action that not everyone is likely to approve of? hopefully you will because there is a lot at stake and the biggest shares of the spoils will go to those who dare.

horoscopes can  pertain to any day you please. if you read one and it inspires you to take a leap of faith or try new things or just puts a little bounce in your step, make it yours. i have saved these and put them on my cork board at the office. available to read at anytime, to motivate me to see the bright side of every situation, and to encourage me to take risks.

changing shoes arrives at our doorstep

Monday, September 20th, 2010

finally after months of waiting, tina sloan‘s book, changing shoes, has arrived on our doorstep, and not a minute too soon! tina is performing in new york city tonight at florence gould hall for an intimate group of new yorkers. the girls at postmark* are honored to attend. most of all we think it is the perfect excuse to do a little damage to the credit card and go shoe shopping!

so… as soon as that little parcel arrived at our door, we popped it in our bag and we took off to one of our favorite boutiques. the book was more than happy to contribute.

tonight i will be wearing the wedge ankle bootlet by ysl. i cannot wait to show them off. i can only imagine what the other shoe obsessed attendees will be wearing.

for those of you unable to attend the new york show of changing shoes, tina will be taking her show on the road this october and performing in pittsburgh, cincinnati, and houston. more dates continue to be added and you can get the latest dates and news at changingshoes.com

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

six more days and we are officially ‘back to school’, and here at the markoff group we are making the most of it ~ riding our new bicycles from Bowery Lane Bikes to and from work, popping out for an afternoon ice cream, and overall enjoying the long sunny days while they last.

however, there is no need to shed a tear, fall is sure to be filled with excitement and new inspiration ~ the foliage changing colors, autumn themed dinner parties, the new amsterdam market every sunday starting in september, and my personal favorite ~ spiced apple cider, i just simply adore it, and most of all we are obsessed with our clients new fall products and we think you will agree.
